Our ambition is to become a thought leader on workforce issues and to spread that knowledge to our investor and company network. Every year we convene hundreds of companies, investors, unions and subject matter experts on salient human rights issues and new workforce data that we generate through the WDI survey. Through an annual survey, WDI collects data that companies voluntarily disclose on workforce and human rights topics across their operations and supply chains. We then share this information with investors, to inform their analysis, stewardship and decision making.
The initiative was founded in 2016 by responsible investment charity ShareAction, with support from the UK government, to address the barriers investors identified in addressing the S of ESG.
In early 2024, after seven years of incubation by responsible investment charity ShareAction, WDI and our staff team transferred to the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
The Foundation works to strengthen free, fair and informed societies around the world, with a focus on media freedom, human rights and inclusive economies. Our focus continues to be on empowering companies and investors to strengthen and scale responsible business practices.
